To provide emotional and spiritual support to members of the fire department and their families, as well as to community members affected by incidents to which the department responds.
The Chaplain maintains a relationship with firefighter/medics, officers and administrative personnel and is on call for them and their families providing support however it is needed. The Chaplain is also present for department ceremonies such as a promotional swearing-in, memorial services, and other department and community events as requested. The Chaplain is a member in good standing of the denomination to which they are called and maybe a part of the Federation of Fire Chaplains. The Chaplain maintains the confidentiality of those who seek counsel and honors and respects all expressions of faith in the department and community. The Chaplain reports directly to the Fire Chief.
Current Chaplain
The current Chaplain is the Rev. Sue E. Allen, Lead Pastor at Living Lord Lutheran Church. She has been an on-call Chaplain for Lake Zurich Fire and Police departments for 15 years and now serves Bartlett Fire Protection District as their department Chaplain. She has training in Clinical Pastoral Education and Pastoral Care and continuing education through the Federation of Fire Chaplains.
